About the Fund
Together, New York Life and Cigna, through our foundations, created the Brave of Heart Fund®, dedicated to providing financial support in the form of charitable relief grants to help families of healthcare workers who lost their lives to COVID-19. At this time, the application period has closed, and remaining funds will be donated to COVID-19 related charities.

Scholarship
The Brave of Heart Fund continues to honor the hard work and sacrifice of healthcare workers and their families by partnering with Scholarship America® to offer scholarship funding for their spouses, domestic partners, and children.
The program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.

Grief Resources
For over 175 years New York Life has helped families in times of grief, and we will continue to do so. Research shows that those who lose a loved one wish they had more support available to them. As a corporate leader in providing childhood bereavement support, New York Life stands ready to help both financially and emotionally, having donated over $16 million to educational and bereavement programs in 2021.

How we've helped
The Hero Art Project
The Brave of Heart Fund partnered with ARTHOUSE.NYC to present an art exhibit with portraits honoring our fallen healthcare heroes. All portraits in the Hero Art Project exhibit featured healthcare workers who lost their lives fighting COVID-19.
